The Scala Dei Masdeu is an award winning 100% Grenache red wine made from a single vineyard re-planted in 1974. Located on the slope of the Montsant mountain, it is Cellers de Scala Dei’s highest vineyard reaching around 800 meters on the highest terrace. Masdeu is one of the vineyards that the Carthusian monks had planted with Grenache centuries before. This Grenache is made using traditional methods and aged for around 18 months in a mixture of cement tanks and oak foudres. Scala Dei Masdeu displays aromas of ripe red fruits complemented by a soft background of oak, notes of fruits in liquor and wild herbs. On the palate the wine is full of candied fruits, sweet tannins balanced acidity and a long warming finish.
