Clos du Marquis 2011

This vintage of Clos du Marquis is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (65%), Merlot (22%) and  Cabernet Franc (13%). 2011 was the second hottest vintage of the decade after 2003 and will be remembered for the exceptionally hot and dry spring that meant a very early flowering. In mid-July the colour change got off to a slow start and then accelerated after some rain showers. The regular summer rain counter balanced the real lack of water observed at the beginning of the season. The final maturity levels were very good, particularly for the phenological potential in the Cabernet Francs. "The 2011 Clos du Marquis has plenty of fruit on the nose: raspberry, cranberry and pomegranate, sous-bois mixed with cigar humidor and wild mint scents that emerge with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with a fine sappy entry and cohesive with a fine bead of acidity. This is not a deep, fleshy nor fruit-driven Clos du Marquis, but it is finely proportioned with a lovely saline finish" 91/100 VINOUS - NEAL MARTIN
