The grapes for the Alois Lageder 'Am Sand' Gewürztraminer come from various locations in the Bassa Atesina, (Termeno, Magrè and Lake Caldaro), as well as the Isarco Valley. The grapes are harvested at different times, but in general, quite early, when they still taste crisp and lively. This gives the Am Sand Gewürztraminer its freshness, salinity, depth and finesse. Ideally, some of the grapes are harvested with noble rot. At the winery, the grapes were gently pressed and fermentation, part of which was whole bunch, took place using natural yeasts in stainless steel tanks to preserve the aromatics. The wine spent around 9 months on the lees in a combination of stainless steel and large oak casks. The Am Sand Gewürztraminer displays enticing aromas of lychee, rose petal and ginger. Intense notes of tropical fruits add freshness and body to the palate. The luscious texture is balanced by vibrant acidity, savoury notes and a long, spicy finish.
