The Balvenie 14 Year Old Caribbean Cask Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky
If you love the signature honeyed heart of The Balvenie but want something with a bit more "va-va-voom," the 14 Year Old Caribbean Cask is a brilliant choice. To create this expression, Malt Master David C. Stewart MBE filled American oak casks with his own blend of select West Indian rums until he felt the wood was just right. The rum was then replaced with 14-year-old whisky for a final period of maturation. On the nose, it’s a tropical delight. You still get that classic heather honey, but it’s now joined by rich toffee and fresh notes of passionfruit and mango. It smells like a Speyside distillery took a summer holiday in the Caribbean. The palate is exceptionally rounded. The finish adds a creamy sweetness and layers of brown sugar and sweet oak spice. Because it remains a quintessentially malt, the finish is clean and lingering with a soft, vanilla-laden warmth. It’s a fantastic example of how a clever can add a playful, exotic twist to a traditional.
